Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

In southern South America, a very complex weather pattern is expected over the next few days. The low pressure system south off Chile and Argentina will remain nearly stationary Wednesday, gradually lifting northeast Thursday and Friday. Farther north, a frontal system is expected to cut through southern Chile and Argentina and move slowly northeast. Expect this system to reach central Chile and Argentina Thursday. As a result, widely scattered precipitation is anticipated across southern Chile and Argentina into the weekend. Southern Chile can expect heavier precipitation especially.

Farther north, isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected in southeastern Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia. Apart from that, typical daily thunderstorms will continue across much of the northern South America.

Dry and mild weather is expected across northern Argentina and Chile as well as Uraguay Wednesday, thanks to the high pressure holding in place.

Monsoon rains approaching Myanmar

Dr. Jeff Masters

The weather in the region ravaged by Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar has taken a turn for the better today, after a low pressure system that brought heavy rains and 20-30 mph winds yesterday weakened and moved off to the north. This system appeared to be a threat to develop into a tropical depression yesterday, but interaction with land is hindering its development, and the low is no longer expected to become a tropical depression. Weather History:

Did you know that...

On this date in 1896, Climax, Colo. reported a low temperature of -10 degrees, setting a United States low temperature record for the month of May. Two years later, hailstones over nine inches in circumference pounded through Kansas City, Mo. causing many south-facing windows to be broken.
