A moist southerly flow of air combined with nighttime cooling has resulted in areas of fog across much of central Upper Michigan this morning. This fog has become locally dense... restricting visibility to one quarter mile or less in some places. The thickest fog is most prevalent in low lying areas... especially near inland bodies of water or wetlands. Expect this patchy dense fog to linger through sunrise before burning off by mid morning.
The fog may also result in the wetting of some roads and sidewalks. Where temperatures have fallen below freezing in areas between Marquette and Iron Mountain... there may be a thin layer of black ice. State Police report M-35 in Marquette County is particularly slippery in spots near County Road 492.
If you must drive early this morning... be prepared for patches of dense fog with near zero visibility. Slow down and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. Use your low beam headlights.
