lake effect Snow Advisory in effect until 1 PM EST /12 PM CST/ Friday... A band of moderate to heavy lake effect snow will continue moving south through Cass County Michigan into Elkhart County Indiana through 9 PM EST. Whiteout conditions have been report by the Cass County Sheriffs Office. Snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour are likely in the heavier bursts. Another band of moderate snow is continuing to move south through much of eastern Starke County. Expect snowfall rates of a half inch to inch per hour with this band through 8 PM CST.

Numerous snow showers. Snow may be heavy at times. Snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches. Lows in the lower 20s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.
Friday
Mostly cloudy. Widespread snow showers in the morning... then scattered snow showers in the afternoon. Snow accumulation around 1 inch. Highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

Partly cloudy. Chance of flurries in the evening. Lows around 15. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Lake effect snow showers are expected to continue and intensify overnight before tapering off on Friday. Total accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected. Locally higher snowfall amounts are possible in far northern and western parts of the advisory area where lake effect snow squalls may be heavier. Brisk northwest winds will also cause drifting snow in open areas.
A lake effect Snow Advisory Means Lake effect snow is forecast that will make travel difficult in some areas. Lake effect snow showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas. Use caution when traveling.
